Statement
I use image making as a release; it is a tool that enables me to express myself. A common assumption is that the photographer is the voyeur, the outsider looking at the world, filtering it through a lens. I find this true of myself; I feel that through my work I am attempting to show people the way I personally see the world. This has meant that as of now, my work has been very diverse, ranging from digital studio work to black and white pinhole photography. For me, the artifice of photography is something that is totally unavoidable, no matter how straightforward an image may seem. It is this scope of being able to reduce the world into a flat image that draws my interest into photography.
Through my work, I battle against myself in a struggle for perfection. Although as an artist perfection is an impossibility, it is a concept that plagues me indefinitely. My perfectionism leads me to do many things, such striving to make work that totally reflects me as a person and at the same time wanting to please everyone who views it. Photography gives me clarification, which then leads to further confusion.
